Having grown your own beautiful salad, picked it fresh from the garden and washed it thoroughly* it seems rude to go out and buy someone’s inferior salad, often stale, flacid, badly dressed or just downright nasty. I’ve tried all sorts of containers to take my salad with me but often forget the fork. It’s always better to dress a salad just prior to eating it. Now I’ve got the perfect portable salad companion – a ‘smash box rubbish free meal box‘. Big enough for my lunch time salads and complete with integral fork (designed for a rather oddly shaped mouth) and dressing container. I’ll be taking it with me on my holidays.
Today’s salad was garden cos lettuce, basil, beetroot, brocolli, radishes, cucumber plus some boughten avocado and sunflower seeds. A dressing of lemon juice and avocado oil with a pinch of Marlborough smoke and spiced solar salt. Just needs the addition of some left over steak, chicken, smoked salmon, blue cheese or a couple of hard boiled chooky eggs.
* soak salad leaves in a sink full of fresh water to which you’ve added a teaspoon of salt for ten minutes to release any slugs or bugs, spin dry in a salad spinner, store in the spinner or a plastic bag or box in the fridge.
