lovage, lavender and lemon grass

There’s always something new to try in a gardening exploit. This year I’ve tried growing lovage even though I’ve never eaten it. I took pity on a couple of sad lavender plants in the supermarket and I love lemongrass so thought I should try it in the tunnel house. I’m also trying bergamot (because I love Earl Grey tea), perilla or shiso (having not been successful getting it to germinate last year) and summer savoury to accompany any beans that escape the ravages of the pheasants in the garden.

Caught a single slug in my beer trap last night having lost two cucumber plants to slugs in the tunnel house and I’m trialling a Gordy’s fly trap near the chooks for eco-friendly fly control. Spraying lots of activated EM to reduce smells and to build up bacteria populations in the soil. When will it rain please?

Here are some ideas if you’ve got gifts to buy for cyclists in your life.
