Here’s Betty enjoying some rocket that had gone to seed. The chooks get to free range in the afternoon but I like to remind them that laying at home is what they’re here to do, so keeping them somewhat contained in the morning helps in that regard. I give them any treats I have to hand to enjoy whilst at home in their run. I took the idea of putting their greens behind a mesh for them to peck at from Free-Range Chicken Gardens. If you get only a single idea you can use from a book or course, I think that’s worth it.
It’s a great time of year for coriander so I made some spring time pesto or if you’ve got rocket, rocket and cashew pesto is delicious too. I added a generous spoonful to some pasta sauce. The leeks are fat and the potatoes stored from last year are rather tired so were a perfect combination for leek and potato soup.
Those cool, creative, interior design consultants at esdesign introduced me to the music of Jamie Woon. Thanks guys, loved it so much I bought the album.
