Grow your own crops in containers with a water reservoir to reduce watering and keep your plants moist for maximum growth. ‘Wicking beds’ can come in all sizes and this workshop will help you decide if they are right for you. See examples of homemade and bought versions. Get ideas on how to make your own at a scale that suits what you want to grow.

Please arrive at the centre 15 minutes before the start to allow yourself time to park and get settled in. Please enter through the front entrance on Karamu Road and sign in at reception. We’ll start on time so if you arrive late and the door is locked, please ring the bell.

An hour of inspiration to get your garden growing. Although this session is free thanks to sponsorship from Hastings District Council, please register via Eventfinda to secure your place, but only if you are definitely going to attend. Numbers are limited, no door sales.

For more information, contact Rachel Knight at Rachel@thekitchengarden.co.nz or call 021 172 5635. Held at The Environment Centre Hawkes Bay, 1004 Karamu Road, Hastings. This event is part of Sustainable Backyards 2020. We have a wide range of events running throughout November so be sure to visit our Eventfinda to find out more!
