Greens and herbs are plentiful in the spring garden. I’ve blanched and frozen lots of spinach (winter giant) and use it fresh in salads too. The best lettuce at the moment is ‘tango’ both in the garden and in my recycling bin. The multiplying spring onions / giant chives are doing well – stronger tasting than a chive and slimmer than a spring onion. Mint, rhubarb and chicory are growing well. Chicory is hardy and unaffected by slugs or rabbits. The ‘cone head’ cabbages are just about ready and three varieties of kale are just starting to go to seed after a prolific winter. Peach blossom is looking promising. The rabbits have made burrows under the potato mesh but don’t seem to have done much damage to the crop fortunately.
