Summer supports

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I grow peas, tomatoes, climbing beans, gem squash and cucumbers vertically using bamboo canes. The tomatoes and cucumbers i twist around a vertical piece of baling twine and the squash I tie onto a three-cane support to help the tendrils. Peas cling on to the canes and some garden twine laced between them at 20cm intervals vertically. Better use of space and easier picking. This year I’ve put tomatoes and cucumbers 50cm apart in both directions – two across the width of a 1m wide bed.
